Credits for Real Estate/Property Taxes

The following are credits available to specific homeowners and renters in Maryland and in Cecil and Queen Anne Counties.  Click on each for more information:

  • The Homestead Credit.  State-wide.  Limits increases to state and local real estate taxes.  Only need to apply once while on the same property.
  • Homeowners’ Property Tax Credit. State-wide.  Based on income and net worth, it can reduce the amount of RE taxes paid.  Must apply each year.
  • Renters’ Tax Credit Program. State-wide. For renters who meet certain conditions.
  • Senior Tax Credit. Cecil County. 20% credit.  Must be >= 65 as of June 30, 2025, lived in property >= 10 years as of June 30, 2025, have income < $150,000 and property assessed at <= $500,000. 
  • Veterans Tax CreditCecil County. 20% credit.  Must be >= 65 as of June 30, 2025, have income < $150,000 and property assessed at <= $500,000.  Active, Retired, Honorably Discharged, or Surviving Spouse.
  • Sworn Officer Tax Credit. Cecil County.  %??  Income < $150,000 and property assessed at <= $500,000, be a sworn officer employed by Cecil County. 
  • Retired or Disabled Veterans’ Tax Credit.  Queen Anne County.  20% of the County Property Tax.  For Retired or Disabled Veterans >= 65 or unmarried surviving spouses.
  • Emergency Worker Tax Credit. Queen Anne County.
